Welcome to Campervamily – we have a camper van and we are a family!

Hi, I’m Cindy! My husband Daniel and I have three kids: a 6 year old, a 4 year old, and a 2 year old. In 2019 we bought a ’99 Eurovan Camper with the hopes of getting out more and creating family memories. In 2021 I started this blog to share what we’ve learned about travelling and campervanning with kids, and finally got it online the end of ’22. I hope you find it helpful!!

Becoming A Campervamily

I grew up taking road trips every summer in my dad’s Ford Model A. My husband grew up on family camping trips. I studied abroad in Spain. He studied abroad in Germany. We got married and took a big road trip camping through many national parks, and a big trip abroad through Europe. All this led us to value travelling, camping, and the growth and perspective that comes with it! After our first child was born we did a big road/camping trip and discovered the car was a bit cramped, so we began to think about a camper. After our second child was born, during sleepless nights of nursing I discovered the #vanlife scene and nesting instincts channeled into dreams of building our own conversion van. One year later on our evening walk we saw a Eurovan Camper up for sale a few blocks away. We realized that if we wanted a camper van, this was our chance! We didn’t have the time to build our own conversion, didn’t want to spend the $$$ to get a new one, the Eurovan could seat and sleep more than most campers, it was cheaper than any other option, it was smaller than any other option, and this one was right in our backyard. It seemed providential, so we bought it!

About The Van

We have a 1999 Eurovan Camper (EVC). Our EVC has been owned a few times and travelled all over! We named it Moby, short for Moby Dick, because it’s a big white whale of a van. The EVC is a Volkswagen van converted to a camper by Winnebago (for more about them read this and this) with some upgrades (which I list here). Since buying it we’ve discovered more reasons to love the Eurovan: it’s old and simple enough that you can do a lot of repair work yourself with the help of the internet, ours is beat up enough we’re not really afraid of ruining it, it’s small enough to be a daily driver if one of our cars is in the shop, and it’s super fun to own a pop top! For pros (and cons) check out the post What’s So Great About A Eurovan!

About The Blog

I started this blog for several reasons: First, I’ve found that our road trips go much better when I plan the heck out of them, so I might as well share the info since I’ve already compiled it! I also found that there aren’t many blogs about traveling with kids in a campervan, much less kids in a Eurovan, so I want to share those tips in case anyone’s in the same happy situation. And lastly, it’s been a dream of mine to have a travel blog, so this is dipping my toe in the water to try it out! I plan to share helpful tips about campervanning and travelling with kids through God’s beautiful world. I’ll only post when I have things to tell so it may be sporadic, but I hope you find it helpful!

Disclaimer

I don’t know everything! Take the info from this blog with a grain of salt. I’m not a mechanic so do your due diligence regarding Eurovan stuff. Some destination info might get outdated so always double check. Don’t blame me if anything goes wrong :).

Enjoy the journey!
